Overview of the School
Saifee Golden Jubilee School or SGJS (formerly Saifee Hall) was established in 1964 by Dr. Syedna Taher Saifuddin (RA). The school, which started with only 5 students, today has close to 3000 students with 200 students graduating from the school each year. The school runs classes from Nursery to Class XII and is affiliated to the ISC (Indian School Certificate) board of education. The school has 140 qualified (BEd) teachers, many of whom have over 30 years of teaching experience. SGJS provides its students with three streams – Science, Commerce and Humanities, thereby making it one of the most popular educational institutions in the city. The school has well-equipped Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories. It also has a well-stocked library and 3 computer rooms.
SGJS, which is conveniently located just off Park St in central Kolkata, has two buildings collectively providing about 100,000 sq ft of space. It recently inaugurated its new administrative wing and management offices along with its Deeni Taalim (religious studies) offices. The school participates in various school level and state-level competitions in the field of sports and education. The school has won the State Government’s Republic Day Parade Award in various categories for the past 6 years. It has also won The Telegraph Awards in various disciplines for the past few years. Over the years, SGJS has produced Doctors, Lawyers, IT Professionals, Businessmen, IAS and IPS Officers. Recently one of its ex-students, Mr. Nadimul Haque, was elected as Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). Additionally, one of its ex-students was also recently appointed to the Prime Minister’s Office.
